Overview
One of the biggest problems that we face in the world is the number of people that are homeless and live in poverty. Poverty leads people to choose there basic needs such as food over water, or housing over clothing. Unfortunately one of the first things that families get rid of is sanitation and health care. This causes totally preventable and curable diseases to turn into dreadful killers really quick. Many of the sick are young children who don't have strong immune systems yet. O'shea from World Vision says, "the number of children under the age of 5 dying every year has fallen dramatically. But it's still too high - 19,000 everyday,"(Frew). If 19,00 children die everyday that is 6,935,000 children every year, and most of them die because they didn't get the health care they needed.
Many of the people that live homeless is because they were rejected by family, or friends. Homelessness goes beyond not having a home. The National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) says, "46% of runaway and homeless youth reported being physically abused" ("Youth Homelessness"). The NCH also says, "75% of homeless or runaway youth have dropped out or will drop out of school" ("Youth Homelessnes"). Unfortunately these homeless teens have no where to go, so they get involved with gangs, prostitution, and drug dealing.
